4230 Raleigh Street Construction Update: Excavation & Foundations are Underway

Now that our shoring has had time to cure we have been moving forward with things at 4230 Raleigh Street.

Excavation was pretty straight forward as we have a flat site and a pretty square footprint for the foundation.

Once the excavation was complete, we were able to get the installation of the drilled piers underway. The piers are installed in a similar fashion to the shoring piers with the  exception that these piers will actually support the house and it’s foundation rather than hold the neighbor’s soil in place. Above you can see the drill rig getting things underway. In the back of the photo you can also see the shoring piers at work. From this shot it is pretty obvious that we would have encountered some issues with the neighbor’s house wanting to fall into our hole had the piers not been installed.

Above you can see the typical concrete transportation setup. The truck in the foreground brings the concrete to thet site and then pours the mix into the pump truck’s hopper. From there the concrete is pumped through the boom and can be placed with precision via the remote control as shown below.

Here’s a closer shot of the home to the south and the minimal setbacks we’re working with here. This house is actually built over our lot line per the survey we had done. The vertical white lines are the edges of the shoring piers that were exposed during excavation.

Above is a shot of the completed foundation pier. The rebar sticking out of the top are the means of connecting the soon to be poured foundation walls to the piers.

At this point the foundation wall form work is almost complete. The walls are almost ready to be poured.

Here’s an overview of the completed form work from the rear alley looking towards the back of the home.

Our structural engineer inspecting the wall reinforcing placement prior to authorizing the concrete pour. With no ladders on site he had to take matters into his own hands for an adequate view.

The pump truck gets ready to pour. The walls were completed and now we have to get the plumbing in and a few other items taken care of in preparation for our basement slab pour. Soon after that framing will begin.
